Today we had an unprecedented Mocap session of 8 hours. The focus was not so much on capturing new data rather than optimizing the current workflow.
This included repositioning of the 4 additional tripod cameras, adjusting the camera settings (strobe intensity, threshold, circle quality, gain etc.) as well as using a new marker set for our test subject. This proved to be very succesful and superior to the previous one and provided very clean and accurate data.
We also introduced a new paper sheet that we fillout after each Mocap session to note down details like cameras angles, positions and the various other parameters mentioned above. This will make replicating a successful mocap setup very easy.
We also found out that the 4 extra cameras are technically different in terms of the light spectrum they use. Whie the cameras on the upper rig are pure infrared (IR), the tripod cameras are only near infrared (NIR). This has the advantage of the light strobe being less blinding to the mocap performer as well as less sensitivity to studio lights due to certain filters implemented in the camera lenses. However, the light sensors are less sensitive in general which means that the range of these cameras is lower then that of the IRs.

Next Mocap session we will take the optimizing one step further!
