Hey Listen!

There is a lot to learn and a lot of news to receive in our interconnected world. A couple of months ago I shared the usefulness of read it later services like Pocket and Instapaper, but reading is not the only way to stay updated on whichever topic we are interested in. In fact, my preferred form of staying up-to-date about the stuff that interests me is listening to Podcasts.

Podcasts can be listened to in almost any situation. While cycling, cleaning the house, lying on the sofa and for some people even while working. Since I like to consume the weekly additions to the podcast feed on my way to work as well as while doing chores that don’t need much or any concentration (think washing the dishes, etc.) my preferred device to receive, store and listen to Podcasts is, of course, my iPhone.

I tried and used many Podcasts clients so far and currently I am using Castro (still not as satisfied as I’d like to be), I have tried many before. The last App I liked was Instacast, which is very feature-rich (chapter marks! yeah!), but it had a quite heavy feel and in my case often was eating up my phone’s battery by lunch for some reason. Castro does not have many of the features, but for a simple “get the newest episodes and let me listen to them” it is totally enough. And it is the most visually pleasing Podcast App I have used so far.

A couple of my favourite Podcasts targeted for people interested in iOS and/or OS X development are Debug, CMD+Space and Core Intuition. So you might like to check them out as well. And if you want to hear more in shorter time be sure to enable the “Fastest” playback rate in the client of your choice. 😉
