We all grew older and have a lot of things to think back and celebrate. Today is a big anniversary for everybody who was interested in video games in the eighties. The Nintendo GameBoy becomes 25 years.

As the first successful portable video game console with interchangeable game cartridges, the GameBoy made the way for all of mobile gaming that preceded it. And it dominated the market despite its comparably miserable technical specification. An 8-bit CPU at about 4 MHz with a meagre 8 kB of RAM to work with and only monochrome display it was orders of magnitude weaker than Atari’s 16-bit Lynx with its stunning 4096 coluor palette which was released just a short while later.
